I just listened to Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant Massacre, as the song plays near the end (it's just over Eighteen minutes!) with the crowd singing, my eyes fill up with tears in joy, and something akin to a quiet sadness. This song is powerful. It's not the first time I've heard it either. But it provoked a strong reaction in me. Have you had a song like that do that? It was a really intense reaction. I also get a little weepy on scenes in films that have that "grandiose" sweeping music to them.
Music is this powerful motivator. It invokes memories, both good and bad. A lot of people use it in their daily lives. Driving to work, at work, at home, exercising. I remember taking a boom box into the bathroom and listening to music while I showered in my twenties. It's this constant in (most) everyone's lives and frankly I think we as a species are better for it. All forms.
Just to let you know I enjoyed the entire Alice's Restaurant album, it's folk late Sixties was perfect for today to enjoy while the leaves pile up from the trees outside on the ground.
What song(s) bring back strong memories for you? I would love to hear your thoughts.
