Throwback Thursday: Atari 2600

My first real gaming console.  I was about six or seven at the time that we had one in the house.  Wow, I haven't thought about this in about thirty years but my first favorite game was Haunted House, now, combine this with the fact that I wanted to be a mad scientist I think, well, that may explain quite a bit about me.  Or maybe not.  The world may never know.

I did play (what I guess now is considered) the classics.  Pac-Man, Combat, Q-bert (man, I loved Q-bert, I loved it so much that I named my first cat Q-bert, wow, now that is two things I haven't thought of in thirty years), Master of the Universe, Maze Craze, Joust, Night Driver, and the not-so-classics, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,  Frogs and Flies, and Riddle of the Sphinx.  I spent many an hour playing the Atari 2600.  As a matter of fact I think I played the Atari up until I received a NES as a present a number of years later.

I look back at the console nowadays and I think it is amazing how far video games have come.  Let's check out a screenshot comparison between a game on the Atari 2600 and the Xbox 360:

Halo 2600 for the Atari 2600.  Yes, that is Master Chief!
Halo 4 for the Xbox 360.
That is crazy.  Graphics are just getting better and better.  With the Eight Generation of consoles coming, the future looks bright indeed.

Thanks for coming down memory lane with me for this Throwback Thursday.  Stay tuned.

P.S. Just found out that the Halo 2600 game was released in July 2010.  Bazinga to me!
